photo du jour - Monday Doorway

This is the main entrance to the 12th century church of St. Marcouf.
Our home which is just a couple of hundred yards away was once the residence of the village priest. The Bishop of Bayeux was a regular visitor or so the story goes and used to stay at the Presbytere, which dates back to the 16th century.
On Saturday afternoon these doors were decked out in wedding finery for la marriage of the Maire's daughter.
It was a lovely day, full of celebrations, blue skies and sunshine.

  1. So many questions about this door. Is it a church? There's something about it that says 'side door' but perhaps it is the main entrance. It's so noble, but so simple. It looks like it might be a door that's still in use.
    Do tell...

  5. I am always in awe of how much history surrounds you. The city I live in is only 160 years old so we have nothing like this.

  6. What a sense of history that door evokes. I think of all who have passed through the door and wonder at their stories. Fascinating!

  7. Oh, how exciting that a wedding was held in "your" little chapel. Did you get some photos. ;-)
    Great shots, Maggie!
