Bright Red Poppies.

Each winter I throw vast amounts of wild bird seed hither and yon in the garden, aiming for the grass. However, I think some went into one of my flower beds as this year beside the japanese quince and in amongst the roses are these cheeky chaps.
Red poppies or to give them their posh latin name papaver rhoeas. So, to brighten up the start of the week some pretty mosiacs for Mary's Mosaic Monday @thelittle redhouse and some wise words for Tracey's Weekly Words To Live By @ Notes From A Cottage Industry.

  1. Beautiful! I get Sunflowers from my birdseed, and lots of little grasses, but never Poppies! Lovely gourmet seeds, that you give your birds! :) I plan to try so many flowers next year, which I not grown here, due to your beautiful photos. I grew many of these in Upstate NY, but not here, so I have to try them.

  6. Oh my! Lovely! Is this the same kind that grows by the roadside in France? Or a more sophisticated cousin? In any case...they're pretty! And yes...there's Beaufort SC, Buford GA and Beaufort (This one is pronounced as in French...beau fort) NC!! We lack imagination over here! lol Happy week!...Debbie

  11. Good Morning Maggie,

OMG...I love those Poppies!! I just finished a flower arrangement for my powder room and it has the same colored ones as in your picture (silk version). Talk about a "pop" of color...

I've grow some from seed but never had much luck. The only variety I've been able to find are California Poppies, which are much smaller...Thanks for sharing!!

    Have a great week!

  12. Simply gorgeous, Maggie! For some reason, I never had poppies in my garden when I lived in Michigan. Can't imagine why because I love them!

  14. Love your quote--that's one I've never heard before but it's certainly true. I love poppies, but especially the seedpods :)
